Binghamton University has been studying text messages for years and in some newly published research they have scientifically proven something most of us already know...when people use a period in one word answers it's really annoying.
The study showed that people view one word responses with a period as less sincere or not as enthusiastic than ones without a period.
Along with the effect periods have, the research also showed that using emojis, irregular spellings like "soooooo" and irregular punctuation use like "!!!!" also can change the meaning of words.
The researchers are certain that our language will continue to evolve digitally and expect more studies about it in the future.
