Sopranos creator David Chase has cast the son of late actor James Gandolfini to play the role of a young Tony Soprano in the highly-anticipated Sopranos prequel.
19-year-old Michael Gandolfini, who was 13 when his father died of a heart attack, will star in The Many Saints of Newark. The film is set in Newark, New Jersey during the race riots of the 1960s and provide a look into how that time shaped Tony Soprano's future as a mob boss.
Michael Gandolfini said in a statement, "It’s a profound honor to continue my dad’s legacy while stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano." (Deadline)
