The Holidays are upon us and while many get ready for celebrations, gift-giving, and receiving, there are too many in our communities who do not have that luxury.
This is why for nearly 20 years, the Western North Carolina division of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation has been working with schools and organizations throughout the region to gather and distribute toys to families with children who otherwise would not have presents on Christmas.
For eleven of those years, local iHeartMedia radio station 99.9 Kiss Country and its affiliate stations have been the exclusive media sponsor promoting and participating in the toy drives throughout the Western North Carolina region and beyond.
Kiss Country’s Eddie Foxx and Sharon Green of the Eddie Foxx Show said, "We are honored again this year to partner with the Marines for Toys for Tots. It has been a longstanding partnership and this is our 10th year of the ‘Toys for Tots Broadcast Marathon’. Helping families all over WNC is important especially this time of year. So many families will benefit from this community wide collection. It is a chance to show your love to the children of Western North Carolina!”
This year, on December 7 and 8, 2018, WNC Toys for Tots will be gathering gifts at the Asheville Outlets in Asheville, North Carolina. Everyone is invited to donate an unwrapped toy (or two!) knowing that it will bring joy to a child in Western North Carolina. The WNC Toys For Tots program covers Buncombe, Cleveland, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, Polk, Transylvania, and Yancey counties and work in conjunction with the elementary and middle schools within those counties to distribute the toys they gather to the families that need them.
Last year, around 9,000 children were able to open gifts on Christmas in Western North Carolina because of this program, and this year, with your help, they hope to distribute even more.
