Caroline Jones shared a heartfelt tribute to her best friend.
The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist wrote “Becca” with co-writers Lauren McLamb, Brandon Ratcliff and Tim Lauer. The song appeared on Jones’ 12-track album, Good Omen, earlier this year, and now, the country star is bringing it to life with a new music video. Jones said when she shared the story behind the song with iHeartCountry:
“‘Becca’ is my best friend and she's this extraordinary woman. She's a farmer and a mother of four out in California, and she homeschools her four children on this organic farm that her husband's family runs. And I wanted to write a song celebrating stay-at-home moms who I think do our culture's most important work, but don't get their flowers for it. Don't get promotions out in the world, don't get awards, don't get salaries. And I wanted to celebrate her and so many other moms who just by raising these really kind, beautiful humans who will contribute, like I said, are doing the most important work. And that's not really something that I understood when I was younger. I'm a very ambitious career person and we're raised in a time as women where ambition is prized over maybe a life Becca's in the media and stuff. And I just think it's, as I've gotten older, I've really taken a really good hard look at some of that programming. And it's just also a reminder just not how much women judge ourselves and each other. It's really about what is going to make you happy in life? What does happiness look like for you? Because I look at her life and the happiness of her children and it's taught me a lot.”
“Oh my God. Just like waterworks,” Jones said as she reflected on the moment Becca heard the song for the first time. “I only just stopped, started being able to talk about it without crying, especially the last verse of that song about the fact that she had a hard childhood and was able to turn it around and create the family that she never had. Oh my God, I got teary-eyed just saying it out loud now. But yeah, no, it was very moving when she heard it and very vulnerable for both of us, obviously, for the song to be out in the world. But I hope it touches people and I hope people can relate with their own friendships.”
“Becca” is one of 12 tracks that appears on Good Omen, Jones’ first project since 2023’s Homesite. The solo artist and first female member of Zac Brown Band said this chapter marked a season of “personal growth,” including finding “a deeper well of strength and empathy” in her first album since becoming a mother. Good Omen also includes the title track, “No Tellin’,” “All The Things” (and its acoustic version), “You’re It For Me, Honey” and “Divorce In A Small Town,” among other highlights. Jones told iHeartCountry earlier this year, “I’m so proud of this record…We had so much fun making this one, and everyone is so proud of the music.”
