Pro Football Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson announced his retirement from FOX Sports' NFL coverage during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Monday (March 3).
Johnson, 81, a two-time Super Bowl champion and former national champion head coach, said his tenure at FOX Sports was "probably the most fun I’ve had in my career."
"And that’s counting Super Bowls and national championships, was at Fox Sports,” he added.
Johnson initially joined FOX Sports in 1994 following the end of his tenure as the Dallas Cowboys' head coach and returned in 2002 after four seasons with the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999.
Johnson was speculated to be planning retirement after FOX Sports ran an AI tribute to his entire football career during the pregame and postgames shows for Super Bowl LIX last month. The 81-year-old landed his first head coaching job at Oklahoma State University in 1979 before being hired by the University of Miami, succeeding legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger in 1984, going 81-34-3, which included winning the 1987 national championship and back-to-back Orange Bowl titles in his final two seasons.
Johnson went 80-64 as an NFL head coach, which included a 44-36 record with the Cowboys, winning back-to-back Super Bowls during his final two seasons with the franchise.
