Reba McEntire scored a soulful singer on her team on The Voice, emerging victorious after Mac Royals earned a four-chair turn on the smash-hit competition show (and a gift she offered could have sweetened the deal).
Royals, of Arkansas, captivated the celebrity coaches during his blind audition as he performed a powerful rendition of “Gravity” by John Mayer. Coach John Legend was first to say he was “moved” by Royals’ performance, and said “Team Legend would be a perfect place for your talent.”
Still, coaches Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan, and of course, newcomer McEntire swooped in to try to convince Royals to choose their team instead.
Stefani hailed Royals a “true, pure artist,” and Horan applauded the “amazing” performance. McEntire — from Oklahoma, a neighboring state — shared that she’s very familiar with small-town communities and the importance of giving back and helping out. The beloved country legend also promised that on her team, she offers “Reba’s Tots,” a self-serve cart complete with the delicious snack and toppings (inspired by the sweet nicknames she and her boyfriend, Rex Linn, have for one another, “Sugar Tot” and “Tater Tot”).
Though Legend, Stefani and Horan offered jackets, shirts and hoodies, Royals — who remembered watching McEntire’s early 2000s sitcom with his late grandmother — opted to select the country star’s inaugural team on The Voice.
McEntire gushed that “we’re gonna have so much fun,” as she treated Royals to tater tots. She said as she shared the clip on Twitter that she’s “so thrilled” to have Royals on Team Reba. Watch the clip here:
