Mudslide Closes Road in Henderson County

Monday's all day rain event wreaked havoc on several roadways across the region. A mudslide on US-74A, near Freeman Hill Drive in Henderson County, has both sides of the road closed, according to Broad River Fire & Rescue. Crews have been working on that throughout the night...they are hoping to have that open by 7:00am this morning.

One Shot in Asheville Over the Weekend

One person was injured over the weeknd in a shootintg in West Asheville. It happened Saturday near Sulphur Springs Road and Delaware. APD says the victim was taken to the hospital where they were treated and then released. That investigation is ongoing

First Year Teacher Arrested For Statutory Rape

(Smithfield, NC) -- A Johnston County Public Schools teacher is facing charges of statutory rape. Thirty-seven-year-old Amanda Doll was arrested on Friday. Shortly after her being charged, Doll was fired from the district where she was one of 33 first-year teachers nominated for 2022 Outstanding First Year Teacher. She is due in court this morning.

Suspect Stole Police Cruiser Then Refused To Exit After Chase

(Gaston County, NC) -- A North Carolina woman is in custody after stealing a Shelby Police cruiser. According to reports, the woman hopped into the police vehicle as an officer was talking with someone else during a traffic stop. The woman led officers on a high-speed chase up Highway 74 from Shelby into Gastonia, reaching speeds of 140 miles per hour. The suspect stopped at a Gastonia parking lot, but officers had to smash the windows of the vehicle and pull her out as she refused to exit the vehicle.

North Carolina Middle Of The Road In New Election Integrity Evaluation

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina is ranked 24th out of 50 states and the District of Columbia in election integrity. The Heritage Foundation's Election Integrity Scorecard evaluates each state's election laws and regulations. Out of 12 areas of measurement, the sections that carried the most weight on the survey were voter identification implementation, accuracy of voter registration lists, and absentee ballot management. North Carolina achieved a 61 out of 100, and received the lowest scores in verification of citizenship, election litigation procedures, and voter identification implementation.

Greensboro City Council Considering Mandating Cart Responsibilities

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro City Council says they are working on the shopping cart problem that is plaguing the city. Residents have been logging complaints about the number of shopping carts piling up on street corners, sidewalks, even at main intersections around town. Now, city council is talking about changing an ordinance to get ahold of the problem. One possible solution being considered is mandating that medium and large businesses be responsible for wrangling their own carts or face possible fines.

Half-Million Dollar Lottery Ticket Sold At Raeford Store

(Raeford, NC) -- Someone in Hoke County is a half-million dollars richer. According to the NC Education Lottery, a 100-times The Cash Fast Play ticket hit for 508-thousand-513 dollars on Saturday afternoon. The winning ticket was sold at the Muncheez Express on Fayetteville Road in Raeford. The odds of hitting the Fast Play jackpot are one in 320-thousand.

One Dead After Northeast Charlotte Gas Station Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a deadly shooting outside of a northeast Charlotte gas station early Monday. Officers responded to the station near West Sugar Creek Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. yesterday. The victim, a 29-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. No suspect information has been released to the public yet.

Gigi's Playhouse Is Looking To Expand Its Services

(Charlotte, NC) -- A local nonprofit aimed at helping kids and adults with Down syndrome is starting back up. Gigi's Playhouse is offering a variety of free tutoring services in southwest Charlotte. The program supports 400 students each year. Gigi's Playhouse is looking to open two satellite locations and will be hosting a fundraising event next month to help.

Charlotte Labor Day Parade Returns After COVID Cancelations

But that didn't stop representatives from 20 local labor unions from marching in yesterday's Charlotte Labor Day Parade. Local ironworkers, airport workers, teamsters, and more took part in the festivities. Yesterday marked the return of the parade after COVID cancelations the past two years.

(Charlotte, NC) -- If you're looking for southern hospitality, look no further than Charlotte. In a recent survey, the Queen City was found to be one of the most polite cities in the country. The first survey from Preply actually sought to find the rudest cities in the U.S., but then they started taking note of other end of the spectrum. Charlotte came in 15th, tied with Dallas, Texas, on the list of technically "least rude" cities.

N.C. Central Celebrating Big Opening Win Over Rival

One Person Dies In Vehicle Accident From Car Going The Wrong Way

(Raleigh, NC) -- Authorities in Raleigh are investigating a fatal Labor Day accident in which a driver going the wrong way, crashed into three other vehicles. It happened Monday around 1:30 pm along Six Forks Road. Police confirmed one person was killed when a car heading south, crossed over into the northbound lane. The accident forced the closure of Six Forks Road between Sawmill and Newton Roads for several hours.

Plane Makes An Emergency Landing In Farm Field In Pender County; Two People Hospitalized

(Pender County, NC) -- Two people were hospitalized Monday after a small plane crashed in Pender County. First responders received a call around 3:54 pm that a plane had made an emergency landing in a field of a private farm off Shiloh Road. They arrived to find the pilot and a passenger still inside suffering from unspecified wounds. No word on the extent of their injuries. The National Transportation Safety Board will begin its investigation into the crash today.

Three Buildings In Downtown Youngsville Demolished After One Of Them Partially Collapsed

(Youngsville, NC) -- A historic building in the Franklin County town of Youngsville, had to be completely demolished Monday, after it partially collapsed earlier in the day. According to the Youngsville Fire Department, the second floor of the structure which was once the site of Griffin's Restaurant on East Main Street, collapsed around 8:am. Following an inspection, officials determined the building was "too compromised structurally" to save. Altogether, Griffin's Restaurant, along with neighboring businesses Brandi's Botanicals and Jubilation Spa were also torn down. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

New COVID Vaccines Will Be Available In Wake County This Week

(Wake County, NC) -- Wake County health clinics are expected to start distributing the newest COVID-19 vaccines as early as this week. Health officials say the recently approved vaccines, designed to combat the BA.4 and 5 sub-variants of the Omicron virus, are expected to arrive within the next few days. The Pfizer vaccine is for patients 12-years old and older. The Moderna vaccine is for those 18-and up. People can begin scheduling appointments to receive the vaccines in Wake County today.

NC State Tight End Out From 4-6 Weeks After Suffering Arm Injury

(Raleigh, NC) -- Officials at North Carolina State announced Monday, that starting tight end Trent Pennix will be out from 4-6 weeks after suffering an injury to his left arm in a game against East Carolina on Saturday. At his weekly news conference, Head Coach Dave Doeren said the Redshirt Junior is expected to return this season and will not need surgery. Pennix entered the 2022 season ranked as one of the Top-5 Tight Ends in the ACC.
