The vice president made a visit yesterday to Greensboro and High Point, where she spoke about the potential for jobs and training. The plan is also expected to provide North Carolina with funds to work on things like physical infrastructure and broadband expansion. Also making the visit was EPA administrator Michael Regan, who graduated from North Carolina A & T State University.

Another Asheville Homeless Camp Evacuated

(Asheville, NC) -- Yet another homeless camp is evacuated in Asheville. Yesterday marked a week since the city gave a seven-day notice to clear the encampment out of Riverbend Park near Isaac Dickson Elementary School due to safety concerns. People have also recently relocated out of Aston Park and Martin Luther King Park. The city said 40 people at Riverbend Park took up an offer to stay in temporary housing at a local hotel.

No Serious Side Effects From J&J Vaccine At AdventHealth

(Hendersonville, NC) -- No serious side effects from the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are being reported out of one western North Carolina health system. A doctor with AdventHealth in Hendersonville told WLOS-TV there haven't been any issues after 12-hundred doses were given out locally. She says there is no reason to panic or have concern about the pause of the vaccine. Six blood clots were recently reported out of six-million people who've had the single-dose shot.

Mass Vax Sites May Be Phased Out With Less Demand

(Haywood County, NC) -- A drop in demand may end up causing some mass vaccination sites in North Carolina to close. The vaccine coordinator in Haywood County told WLOS-TV that Smoky Mountain Event Center remains open for now, but it will be phased out if there aren't enough participants. Health officials seems to be leaning towards smaller vaccine sites now.

(Edneyville, NC) -- Investigators are searching for the cause of a devastating fire in Henderson County. Flames completely destroyed a home in Edneyville last Thursday, which killed five animals. The family of eight made it out safely. A fire also damaged a home outside Asheville yesterday.

Education Board Approves Rules For Summer Learning

(Raleigh, NC) -- The state's education board is laying our groundwork for North Carolina's summer learning program. Yesterday, members approved guidelines for the instruction, which must be offered by each school district. At least 150 hours or 30 days must be offered to students in the program. Public school systems are in the process of identifying at-risk students, but attendance isn't required.

Suspect Arrested In Deadly Uptown Hit-And-Run

(Charlotte, NC) -- The suspect in a deadly uptown hit-and-run is behind bars. The CMPD says a 37-year-old woman died after she was hit by an SUV on South Tryon Street nine days ago. Investigators tracked down the SUV to College Park, Georgia. The driver turned himself in yesterday on felony hit-and-run and reckless driving charges.

Amazon Adding More Jobs In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- Amazon is bringing hundreds more jobs to the Queen City. The online retail giant announced this month it will open a new distribution center in Pineville, with two delivery stations in southwest and north Charlotte. The president of the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance said Amazon's expansion will bring more regional connectivity. Both full-time and part-time work will be available.

The owner of the locations says he feels it's the same suspect in both crimes after seeing surveillance footage. The businesses lost a few hundred dollars in cash.

The team announced yesterday he's been cleared for individual basketball activity after a CT scan revealed his fractured right wrist was healed. Fort Bragg Paratrooper Dies In Training Accident

(Fort Bragg, NC) -- A military investigation has been launched into the cause of an accident that resulted in the death of a Fort Bragg soldier on Monday. The soldier, whose name is being withheld pending notification of relatives, reportedly died during a paratrooper training exercise. A spokesperson confirmed the soldier was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.

FEMA COVID-19 Vaccine Site Extended In Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC) -- FEMA is extending its COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Four Seasons Town Center in Greensboro. The site was supposed to close after eight weeks, but FEMA is extending it through May 27th. Workers have been vaccinating around three-thousand people a day since it opened in early March. Appointments are encouraged but not required.

UNC Greensboro Announces New Head Coach

(Greensboro, NC) -- UNC Greensboro is announcing a new head basketball coach. Mike Jones had been the head coach at Radford University for the past ten seasons. He's a two-time Big South Coach of the Year and has been to the NCAA Tournament once. Jones will lead UNCG's men's basketball team after former head coach Wes Miller transfered to Cincinnati.

Fort Bragg Paratrooper Dead After Training Accident

(Fort Bragg, NC) -- A Fort Bragg paratrooper is dead after a training accident. Military officials say the paratrooper was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. They'll release the paratrooper's identity once family members have been contacted. The incident is under investigation.

Drive-Thru Dinosaur Experience Coming To Greensboro Coliseum

(Greensboro, NC) -- A life-like dinosaur experience is coming to the Greensboro Coliseum. Dinosaur Adventure will transform the coliseum into an animated drive-thru experience. It will feature a 40-foot T-Rex, a 30-foot Brachiosaurus, a Triceratops and many other life-like dinosaurs. The event runs from May 14th through May 16th, and from May 19th through the 23rd.
