Halloween on Vermont Avenue is off.
That's the recent, unfortunate news out of West Asheville. Organizers say it just can’t happen because of the pandemic.
"It’s huge and it’s incessant and it’s wonderful, it’s glorious, but it can’t be done," said Donna Nelson, who lives on Vermont Avenue.
Those who put on the popular event are now trying to get word out because they’re worried people will still show up.
They say this year is just not safe for large crowds.
The event usually draws thousands of people to Vermont Avenue for trick-or-treating. Unlike years past, this year there will be no road blocks and no police.
