Asheville caretaker charged with 2nd-degree forcible rape

An Asheville woman wanted on rape charges turned herself in to police Monday.

Josianne Anderson Freeman, 37, faces charges of second-degree forcible rape, second-degree forcible sex offense and first-degree kidnapping.

On Aug. 12, 2019, the Asheville Police Department responded to a report of an assault on Livingston Street in South Asheville. An initial investigation revealed the adult victim was suffering from a physical disability and had been sexually assaulted.

After a coordinated effort between investigators with the Asheville Police Department, Buncombe County Department of Social Services and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Freeman, the person's caregiver, was charged on July 1, 2020.

Area law enforcement agencies had been attempting to locate Freeman since July. She turned herself in to authorities on Monday and is being held in the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $100,000 secured bond.
