Normally the Haywood County fair would be starting right now. But due to the pandemic, it's cancelled this year.
Earlier this summer the NC Extension Office said it wouldn't be able to help organize livestock or agricultural competitions.
The fairgrounds, now known as the Smoky Mountain Event center, lost other major events including the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and the BMW Riders Association.
The event center manager says they've lost about $150,000 in income.
“It puts us in dire straits and of course, this is run by a non-profit," says manager Chris Caldwell. "And we are looking for ways to try to raise money."
