(Hendersonville, NC) -- Hendersonville police are looking for a wig-wearing bank robbery suspect. Officers say the man demanded money at the BB&T on Dana Road Thursday afternoon. The man was clad in a shoulder length black wig. The FBI has dubbed one Charlotte-area robbery suspect as the 'bad wig bandit.' It's unclear if the cases are connected.

Wintry Weather Threatens WNC Tomorrow Morning

(Asheville, NC) -- Some threatening weather is heading back to North Carolina. A wintry mix of snow and ice is possible before noon tomorrow. The National Weather Service doesn't expect significant accumulation, but drivers are encouraged to watch out for slick spots. The system will also bring in some strong wind through the rest of the weekend. It looks like overnight temperatures will bottom out around 20 in the first half of next week.

Man Dead After Standoff In Ashe County

(Fleetwood, NC) -- The SBI is investigating the death of a man after an eight-hour standoff in Ashe County. Investigators say a man inside a camper started firing shots at deputies when they went out to do a welfare check on U.S. Highway 221 near Fleetwood Wednesday. The Watauga Democrat says the man was found dead early Thursday morning after hours of unsuccessful negotiations. The details behind his death haven't been released. No deputies were harmed.

MLK Peace March And Rally Coming Up

(Asheville, NC) -- The Asheville area is preparing to honor the life of Martin Luther King, Junior. The 39th Annual MLK Prayer Breakfast is sold out tomorrow morning at the Crowne Plaza Resort. The annual Peace March and Rally will be held Monday morning at 11:30 at the Hopkins Chapel AME Church. The crowd will then gather at Pack Square Park to hear speakers on justice and peace.

Transit System Over Budget

(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville's transit system is costing a bit more than expected. WLOS-TV reports the system is currently half-a-million-dollars over budget for this fiscal year. City councilman Vijay Kapoor says the department's budget went up 20-percent year-to-year as well. He added at the city council meeting this week that other capital projects are being neglected because of transit.

DOT Closing One Lane Of I-40 West

(Clyde, NC) -- The DOT is closing down a lane on I-40 west in Haywood County this morning. The last-minute announcement came Thursday after a spot near mile marker 32 continues to crumble. All repairs are expected to be wrapped up by this evening. The DOT is recommending anyone traveling westbound to take exit 33 if you want to avoid any delays.

Woman Sentenced For Eye Drop Poisoning

(York County, NC) -- A Lake Wylie woman, accused of poisoning her husband, is heading to prison for his death. Lana Clayton entered a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with human food in York County court. Medical examiners found a decongestant used in eye drops in toxicology reports after performing an autopsy on Stephen Clayton. The judge sentenced the woman to 25 years yesterday.

Brooks' Sandwich House Re-Opening February 1st

(Charlotte, NC) -- A NoDa sandwich shop which was co-owned by a murder victim is opening back up soon. The doors at Brooks Sandwich House have been closed since 61-year-old Scott Brooks was gunned down trying to open up the restaurant in early December. The suspects still haven't been caught. The Brooks family announced Thursday the shop will welcome customers again beginning Saturday, February 1st.

One Dead, Two Injured In North Charlotte Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a deadly triple shooting in north Charlotte. Officers found one man dead inside a car on Holland Avenue near Druid Hills Neighborhood Park early Thursday morning. Two other men were suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds close by. WSOC-TV is reporting the homicide is the second one in the neighborhood this week. There's no word on possible suspects.

Animal Care Offering Special Promotion In Honor Of Keuchly

(Charlotte, NC) -- Linebacker Luke Keuchly [[ kee-klee ]] is being honored through a special promotion offered at CMPD Animal Care & Control. They're using Keuchly's number-59 as a way to offer adoptions through Valentine's Day at no cost, with the exception of a financial donation. The adoption fee will be waived on any adult dog under 59-pounds. Keuchly announced his retirement this week after spending his eight-year NFL career with the Carolina Panthers.

Suspect Locks Car Doors To Hide Marijuana

(Rowan County, NC) -- A man in Rowan County is accused of locking his car doors to hide pot from deputies. They came across Daniel Morton's parked car in a lot on China Grove Road Wednesday, where a strong odor of marijuana was allegedly floating around. Investigators say Morton exited the car, and then locked the doors. The deputies searched it and found seven pounds of pot. Morton was arrested for obstruction and marijuana possession.

Knights Adding Safety Netting

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights are implementing a growing safety trend in baseball. The team said Thursday that safety netting at BB&T BallPark in uptown is being extended down the right and left field lines. The decision comes after more fans are being injured by foul balls. The netting last season was in place behind the dugout and home plate.

Thomasville Man Accused Of Holding Woman For 'Sexual Servitude'

(Thomasville, NC) -- More details are surfacing about a Thomasville man who was arrested on multiple drug charges this week. Kevin Michael is now accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her in "sexual servitude." The Davidson County Sheriff's office responded to a home on Kanoy Road on Tuesday about a disturbance. That's when a woman crashed an SUV through a closed garage door and hit a deputy. Officials say she refused to stop and was shot. Both the deputy and the woman were taken to the hospital. Michael was arrested on the scene.

Eleven New Flu Deaths In North Carolina

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- State health officials say eleven people died from the flu the second week of January. The total number of flu-related deaths in the state is 33 since September 29th. Health officials say flu activity is widespread in North Carolina and about 30 others states. They're urging folks to get the flu shot.

One Person Killed, Two Injured In Greensboro Wreck

(Greensboro, NC) -- One person is dead and two others are hurt after a crash in Greensboro. It happened around 3:00 yesterday afternoon on Yanceyville Road. Police say Michael Clark was headed northbound in a Mazda sedan when he crossed the center line and hit a Chevy truck head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger in the truck were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Graham Man Accused Of Raping Child

(Alamance Co., NC) -- A Graham man is accused of raping a ten-year-old child. Thirty-five-year-old Joshua Jamison was arrested Wednesday in the Snow Camp area. The police were called the day before when the child showed up to the hospital to be examined. Jameson is facing multiple child sex charges, including first-degree statutory sexual offense. He's being held on a 300-thousand-dollar bond.
