One Dead In Marion Crash (Marion, NC)

The state highway patrol is investigating a deadly crash on Highway 80 in Marion.  Multiple motorcycles and a van were involved in the accident early Sunday afternoon.  One person died at the scene, while four others were injured.  Details haven't been released on exactly how it happened.       

Buncombe County Ending Business With Contractor (Buncombe County, NC)

Buncombe County is cutting ties with a contractor who was allegedly part of a kickback scheme with three former officials.  Former county manager Wanda Greene and two assistant managers were federally indicted last week for accepting money for extravagant trips in exchange for contracts.  Commissioners say that contractor is Joe Wiseman, who once worked for CDM Smith.  They're scheduled to officially terminate any contracts with Wiseman during a Tuesday meeting.  

Suspect Arrested For Death In Alexander County (Alexander County, NC)

An Alexander County suspect is being accused of killing a 77-year-old man.  Deputies found the victim in the woods behind his home just northwest of Taylorsville on Thursday.  They believe he had been there for a few days with blunt force trauma to the head and a gunshot wound to the chest.  The suspect allegedly killed the man in his home and moved his body to the woods.  

Truck Runs Off Road, Driver Dies (Asheville, NC)

Asheville Police say a Candler man died in a crash on Swannanoa River Road.  The man allegedly drove a U-Haul truck off the roadway and into a parking lot.  The truck hit a parked car and the man died at the scene.  Investigators are still looking to determine what led to the crash.      

Two Black Mountain Armed Robbery Suspects At-Large (Black Mountain, NC)

Black Mountain Police are looking for two men who robbed a gas station at gunpoint.  Investigators say the owner of Burton's Place on Old U.S. 70 was hit with a handgun when two masked suspects in all black came in the store.  WLOS-TV says the department is working with Asheville investigators to see if the suspects may be connected to an armed robbery in the Oakley neighborhood almost a week ago.     

Small Earthquake Reported In Mountains (Blowing Rock, NC)

A small earthquake is being reported in the North Carolina Mountains.  The U.S. Geological Survey says it hit shortly before six Sunday morning around ten miles north of Lenoir.  There was no damage from the quake, but some people said they felt it.  It registered a two-point-four magnitude.
