Local mask mandate being considered in Waynesville

The Town of Waynesville is considering implementing a mask mandate, which would add local authority to North Carolina’s existing mask requirements.

First, the Board of Aldermen wants to update the town's emergency ordinance to include health issues, which could make way for a local mask mandate. Town leaders may bring it up at their meeting Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Health professionals say masks are front and center in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“For the residents, the people, the businesses here, it will add value and safety,” said Robert Robinson, of Charlotte, who was visiting Waynesville with his wife, Stephanie.
