A Buncombe County teen came close to losing her life after she was shot in the face in Haywood County over the weekend.
Canton police are saying very little about the case. There's an ongoing investigation, but no charges have been filed. Police do confirm the wound was not self-inflicted.
Brooklyn Netherton's got a smile that can light up a room, a big personality and laugh. Monday was her 16th birthday, but, instead of spending the day celebrating, the teen from Leicester spent it in the ICU at Mission Hospital. Netherton's jaw was shattered by a bullet that exited her left temple, just missing her brain.
"It was senseless, careless and could've cost her her life. It's forever changed her life," Netherton's aunt Sara Turner said.
