Labor Day weekend gas prices could be lowest since 2004

If you're hitting the road for Labor Day weekend, it might be a bit cheaper than usual.

According to GasBuddy, drivers will see the lowest gas prices since 2004.

Right now, the national average is $2.22 per gallon and it's predicted to be down to $2.19 by the weekend.

The average right now in North Carolina is even lower, at $2.12. It's $2.13 for the Asheville area.

Experts say prices should keep going down in the coming weeks as we switch to "winter gas."

Drivers say the lower prices are a welcome sight when they pull in to fill up.

"It's helping ease some of that strain off being out of work and then going back to work," Kyle McMinn said.
