Why March 7th is a VERY Important Day To Me
Posted March 7th, 2014 @ 1:15pm

March 7th...just a normal day right? To me, it's a BIG day. Before I explain why, I am by NO means bragging or anything of the sorts, just sharing a story...

On March 7th, 2007 I donated my left kidney to my older brother Josh! He is only 6 years older than me, so we were already incredibly close! Now I know you're wondering why...let me explain quickly:

He was only born with one kidney, but we never knew this until he was 17. He went for a full physical for college. After a few tests, we were informed that he only had one, and on top of that it was damaged! They said that his damaged kidney would last him well into his 40's and not to worry! They were wrong...

Fast forward to 2006 when I was a freshman in college. I remember getting a phone call from my mom during English class. Actually multiple calls. My brother had found out his kidney failed, and he was going to need to go on the transplant list. This scared the hell out of me!

We started getting all our family, friends, co-workers, anyone we knew tested to see if he was a match to them. No one was. I was the last one to get tested because my family wanted me to focus on school. I had the kidney test in Charlotte, and before I could even back to school, they called and said we were a perfect match!

So March 7, 2007 was set as the date! Now imagine being my mother and father....both kids in major surgery at the SAME time! My surgery took around 6 hours, my brothers around 8!

There are 2-3 days that just don't exist in my life, haha. I was OUT from the anesthesia! It was a rough recovery, but only after a month did we return back to work and to school!

Fast forward to today...I'm healthy as can be! (Other than all that beer I drink ha) I don't have to take medicine and I can't tell I'm missing a kidney at all! My brother is healthier than ever! He's on the LOWEST amount of medicine possible, and the kidney is doing GREAT!

We truly were blessed by God to have the cure in our family, and I am so thankful to this day!

I urge you...if you are not an organ donor, PLEASE sign up to be one today!! Your organs can save up to 8 lives if you should pass. PLEASE sign up today!! You can become one HERE!

To my bro...love ya man! Keep taking those meds...and I'm still waiting on my Mustang ;)
